Central Jakarta Mayor Cleaned Up Monas

Jakarta Fair held by City Government in the tourist area of the National Monument (Monas), Gambir, Central Jakarta, leaving much garbage. As a result, this cheapest tourist attraction in the capital city looked dirty and slum. In fact, the roads outside the cup monument made ​​of Andesite or Granite Stone looked very dirty.

Unable to bear seeing this condition, the Mayor of Central Jakarta, Saefullah, invited 350 of his employees to clean-up Monas. As a result, a wide variety of garbage strewn like peanut shells, cigarette butts and soft drink bottle caps until tissue successfully cleaned.

Based on beritajakarta.com observation in the field, the Monas clean up was held from the North, East, South, and West side of Monas. Accompanied by hundreds of employees, Saefullah swept Monas using a broom stick. The rest of the cigarette butts and peanut shells tucked in Granite Stone were sprayed with fire truck.

Saefullah said two fire trucks were deployed to clean up garbage on the sidelines of Granite Stone in font of Monas’ cup. "Roughly we sprayed 80,000 cubic meters of water," he said, Friday (6/27).

Saefullah also stated that Monas is arguably the pride of all citizens of Jakarta since this historical monument is proven to be a favorite tourist destination for residents. "Monas area must be clean because this place is the residents’ pride," he added.

The 350 employees consisted of urban village, sub-district, and Central Jakarta City Government employees. They were asked to clean up the garbage with available cleaning appliances. "The result is dozens of bags of trash containing peanut shells, cigarette butts, bottle caps and other trash are managed to be collected. Thanks to all participants today," told Saefullah.
